Fall Knitscene...Be Prepared for EVIL

Is it just me or is the Fall Knitscene preview all about the fat chicks?

Check out the Abbess pullover. I would have named it "Frumpy." I would have also had a photo, but blogger is being an ass.

It's practically Bridget Jones: the Edge of Reason. Renee Zellweger was too heavy to look at. Oh snap, I used to be a big girl, so stop your bitching. Yes, yes, pre 3 pigs, I there was 60 more pounds of Snot to throw around. With the Ogre's continuous strawberry confections, I'm on my way back there too.

Now I like me some realistic models, but it JUST turned summer around Michigan parts, and I guess I'm not used to layers for warmth. I'm used to my layers as in blubber hanging over a pair of cut off levis with a baby on the hip layers. Sometimes the only layer is a good chili dog. But dang, we make good chili dogs around here.

Oh, I just found my explanation in the editor's letter. It basically boils down to "Americans are fat."

"These are not novelty projects or purely conceptual, these are work-horse knits that fit into everyday life and can become funky or trendy through styling. At the end of the day, though phenomenal and intriguing as knits, these projects are real clothes."

So, we can enjoy the patterns in the up coming Knitscene as is, and accept that we are all over weight, under exercised and out of shape. Or, we can actually turn off the air conditioning, in turn saving energy (VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!!), get outside ride a bike, garden, ENJOY SUMMER! Then maybe, just maybe, scoff at those everyday life knits that knitscene is trying to offer up. Plus, it would use up less yarn that way.

I really had to quit...Not Knitting!

No, not because I did anything bad! I haaaad to quit the lab because of all my extracurricular activities. (Don't worry, there is knitting, scroll down if you hate, well, the great outdoors or Pigs)

There are parties to attend...

Can you tell by the above photos which person I am related to?

Giant Mutant Radioactive Ants to tame...

You know, we called the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to help us, but look who came instead!!

Spinsanity and her Kidlets, Kai and Abi!!!

Now Abi could give Shelly a run for her money as goat whisperer,

but poor Kai, got the snot kicked out of him.

Ha! With Snotty at the zoo, and the poor kid got the snot kicked out of him. It just doesn't seem fair.

Why were we at the zoo? The Pigs and I were in training. Well, we're always in Zombie Defense Training. But this time we were in training for the Binder Park Zoo Cheetah Chase!
Oh, yes, they release the Cheetahs into the zoo and people have to out run them. It's like the Running of the Bulls, but for real men.

No! It's another ruddy fund raiser walk! I'm not begging from you this time. We're going door to door this time. Hey, Support YOUR local Zoo.

It's a 5k! Damn you Shelly and your damn dirty apes, or cebus monkeys or new world primates. Eh, we can do a 5k in our sleep. Actually, I think Pig 3 usually does. Ok, we aren't running. We are actually doing the "Sloth Walk" but it's still for the zoo.

Remember, these are the highlights, since Sunday...

New garden plot...Reduce mowing, reduce gas consumption, increase useful planting beds for veggies next year-SAVE THE WORLD.

Ride bikes with Pigs

Explain Barbara J. Hopps Memorial Project to adoring fans at Dental office. Receive praise and glory. Feel full of self, mess up whole row of knitting. Refuse to frog in front of adoring fans.

That's when I realized everyone loves Green and Orange, they just may not know it until they
the goods!

Imagine all the Awesome I could have accomplished if I didn't have to work last night!

Another Single Sock...Does that Orange and Green yarn look familiar? I'm making a Shawl for me! We've inspired me!

Put to Shame...Again...More...Still

Brought to you by Linda of Fat Cat Crochet, all the way from South Carolina!

She's started her own Crochet/Knit group...meeting at the Tiki Hut, how cool is that? Makes the most amazing crochet grocery string bags and started selling them so she could donate to the Alzheimer's Organization in her Mom's Honor.
Then she still knocks out these 4 lovely squares for the Barbara J. Hopps Memorial Blanket!
Plus, her squares are square. Mine, oval. How am I knitting ovals?
I'd now like to take this opportunity to announce that I am quitting my job at the lab so that I can fully dedicate myself to the Pigs, my knitting, and my charity work and zombie slaying. Yes, working at the lab is really cutting into going to the zoo, family adventure time, and may be the reason my knitting of squares has resulted in knitting of ovals.
Ok, maybe the ovals are due to my bad math, running out of yarn, having to put on a border, just winging the border, saying "eh, it will all come out straight when it gets sewed together" not realizing I will be helping to sew it together, so the whole blanket will probably be oval...
Probably it's not so much the lab, that's holding back the knitting, it's all my hardliving zombie slaying lifestyle. Because really, can you get your knit on after you've chased a flannel wearing zombie through the back field, while carrying a shovel gotten all muddy and well, slimey. Then you have to clean up. It's difficult, to say the least.

Knitting and the Art of Speed Knitting

So I talk about knitting all the time, but I really don't accomplish much.

Here's another thing on my long list of things to not knit:

Helena from the most recent issue of Knitty

Hey Cart and Beth, I'd make this for Sweet Adeline but it's a bit warm in Raleigh. Ah, here's my famous annoying knitting phrase that gets me into trouble everytime "I'm sure it will only take 2 minutes to knit."

Because when I saw it I thought, "gee, 2 minutes per sweater, I could make one for Addy, Maeve, and Sadie! 6 minutes of knitting, 3 sweaters! Rocker! Heck at that rate, I could make one for Jen's baby, 50/50 shot it's a girl, and if it's a boy, charity sweater!"

Really, that's what I thought. You know that's not going to happen right? Right? I could start one, and see what happens...

Another sweet looking 2 minute project from knitty...check this

The Shetland Shorty

Now do I just have a girl crush on her, or is that a wearable cute knit? Really, can I wear that? I'm talking about the sweater.

Really, I should just go do what I'm good at...swatching local parks and knitting wonky squares.

Fiesta, the Local Scene, Again

My cousin Jessica is getting married in July! She and her betrothed picked out Fiestaware for their dishes.

Now, right behind yarn, shoes, and zombie slaying, Fiesta is my favorite. Why? Check the colors!!!

Either that Homer Laughlin was colorblind, or he was living the technicolor lifestyle!

Can you guess what color dishes we have at Casa de Ogre? Why Orange and Green of course!!!

Soooo, I had to go into Lakeside Mercantile...Yes, all I do is shop. If you need something, I know where you can find it. Unless it's my car keys, or a pair of scissors, that, I can't find.
Lakeside Mercantile...
Really, people should pay me for pimping out their stores. If you shop at a store I recommend, say "Holly at Knit with Snot" sent you. It will get you no discount, but come on!
Viva la revolucion!
Now, if I could find a way to host a knitting event in the kitchen shop...
Sorry, I can't show what I bought! It might ruin the surprise! But, you may suspect it was kitcheny. In theory, I am also knitting a dish cloth for Jessica. But, I'm thinking that won't be finished. You know, the lawn needs mowed, the Pigs need fed.

Swatching Picnic Areas...We did that for You

Yesterday we test picnicked Cold Brook Park or shall we say, swatched?
Picnic shelter

Photo is crooked because I was running, not because the building is crooked. I was running to keep up with the Pigs. They were having a heck-a good time.

Play ground...tested by all in our party...even me...that is not a smile...look of pain

The park is by a lake. But you would have to not pay attention for a looong time, and have a kid that really wanted get into 15 feet of prickers before they got to actual water.

Jen, there are bathrooms. The bathrooms are open, they are pretty clean, they don't stink, and

the sinks have soap. I checked all that out too. Yep, I care that much.

Wednesdays 3pm Starting July

We are also looking to do some knitting in Richland at FABRICATIONS! in the Clock Tower Green Complex.

The Ogre and I had mad fun making "SAVE THE CLOCK TOWER" jokes. Yeah, then I showed him the Confection bakery site. How can they put so much awesome in one place???

Speaking of awesome

The trip to the park wore the Pigs out enough that I was able to stop into Stitching Memories and pick up one skein of yarn. Yes, I went into Stitching Memories, in Portage and only bought one skein of Mission Falls.

Ok, I meant to buy only one skein, but that other stuff came home with me. But it's for Charity! It's for a good cause! It's machine wash! It's for Hope Lodge! How can the Ogre say no to that???

Oh, the Crochet Magazine? He just bought 3 Fantasy Football magazines, he has no room to talk. It's like Nerd V Nerd all the time at our house.

You want me to go buy yarn?

It's Wednesday, we've been to the Kalamazoo Bird Sanctuary, Downtown Kalamazoo, which included the Olde Peninsula Brew Pub, Terrapin, awesome new shoes from V&A Bootery.

For me, not the Pigs-I needed adventure shoes to keep up with the Pigs on all of our darn ADVENTURES!

At the rate we are going, I'm geussing the tread will be worn off of these by mid July. Really.

Then I finished, as well as I finish anything, my first square for the Hopps for Hope Green and Orange blanket!
How did I know it was done? Well, it was square, and I ran out of yarn. Problem with that? It's only 10 x 10 not the required 12 x 12.
Luckily, the Ogre isn't only pretty, he's smart. The mighty Ogre suggested I put a 1 inch border around the square, thus making it the required size. He even recommended using green. What a brilliant idea!
Sadly, yes, sadly, I have no green yarn of similar weight, or superwash ability. Do you know what this means? Do you? DO YOU? The Ogre has basically told me I need to go to a yarn store...in the name of charity no less!
So, I'm thinking I may have to check out this new scene...

Cool, right? Plus, check out this place...Confection in the same complex. I must make sure they are open when I stop in! Sweet, sweet fat arse, here I come!
What did I start knitting because I couldn't finish my square? A green and orange shawl...for me. I was feeling inspired by our afgan project. You know those are my favorite colors.

What did I do on World Wide Knit in Public Day???

We took the Pigs to the Vicksburg Old Car Festival on World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKIP).
The Ogre tried to keep the Pigs clean and in line.

This left me ample time to make friends,

This is Banjo Guy

ask questions and well, make a general ass of myself.

I was asked at one point not to lick the Nash. I said "but I love it so much!"

I was then told if I love it that much I will be thrown into here...

and the hood would be shut until I could behave. Yeah. I wasn't even threatened by the Ogre, this was by the car owner. It was all in good fun, I think.

Then I really got in trouble when I yelled out "where the hell are all the cool cars? I haven't seen a single Auburn, Cord,

Karman Ghia, or

Fastback!

I was gently reminded that we lived in the land of the Big 3 and that maybe I lived closer to Kansas than California, and that my cool friends probably all had to sell their cool cars and they too were probably driving cars with safety restraints and car seats by now.

Uh, yeah. Last I heard even Shanda traded in that sweet Fastback for a more suitable VW Bus. Rock on Shanda. No way, Fight the Man. I hope you got that Fastback, back.

So, knitting, where were the knitting and I? In everyone of those photos. But I especially liked our lunch we had at the new little Cafe in Vicksburg-

Good to Go Cafe
120 E. Prairie St
Vicksburg, MI 49097
(269) 649-9790
fax (269) 649-9795

They have wifi too! Anyway, super delicious, homemade, the way you want homemade to be. They Cater too! Oh, they also have soups and salads and a whole other side to their menu, plus fruit cups, and yogurt parfaits, and man, now I'm hungry.

So, if I turn up missing, and you don't suspect foul play, check here. I am smitten. They've got chipotle mayo! I'm in love. Now if I could just get Tony Stark and Stan Lee to meet me for lunch there...

But wait, that was only the first three hours of WWKIP day!
Then Pig 1 and I sold water for the Cub Scouts!

Being responsible, we also took empties.

I also had a favorite knit spot doing that!

As downtown Vicksburg as you can get. Under the traffic light, right in the middle of the intersection. Awwwh yeah!

Ok, I only got my knitting out and did like 2 stitches. But I was helping the Pig sell water. It was 1 million degrees, and the 'Burg had just put down new black top.

So, good call on selling H2O Cub Scouts! Those people were hot!

I also know it's officially summer no matter what the calendar says, my feet have their birken-stripes already, and my Tigers hat is good and smelly.

Ironman, Stan Lee and Being a Dirty Nerd

I have a big dirty crush on Tony Stark.

Not on Robert Downey Jr., but Tony freaking Stark. We saw Ironman awhile ago, and I can't stop thinking about it. You know I'm a big dorky fangirl, but this is getting out of hand.

Stan Lee is my hero, and well, he's on my list, you know, the list. Right, the list. He's GOD, no he is MARVEL COMICS and for that, well, I'd do that. Oh, hell, he's Stan Lee.

Gwenth Paltrow was all babe-alicious girl next door, super smart and didn't take any crap. Plus she had her natural body intact. I don't know, I think you'd call her, a, uh, ROLE MODEL?

But Ironman was TOPS! As in comic book, fangirl , pron, yarn, girl power, cashmere, gush, war is bad, awesome. I have to go change clothes.

I'm serious! Go. Now. See it. Relive the whole Robert Downey Jr. you were a teen in the 80's thing. You know you're still rooting for him. And, he's been working out.

Hell, make it a double feature and see the Sex in the City movie. It's like it's our time to shine, our time to shine.

Now, go pack your bag full of knitting and milk duds and go to the theatre. You deserve a day off.

Hugs and kisses,

Zombie Prom Date Knitters-Summer Schedule of Doom

Oh, the laughs never stop with this group! Well, maybe they will! School's out, kids are home what will the fearless zombie slaying knitters do during the day???

Go to local parks! Ah yes.

Since this is summer, and you may not be able to make it. Cool with us. We might not be able to make it either.

Plus, with gas at $1 million dollars a gallon, we may also make this an every other week thing. But if you miss the general jack assery of it all, ORGANIZE A CAR POOL.

Location? Dead smack in the middle of Kalamazoo and Battle Creek? Now, some of you are going to complain anyway, so before you start, with whatever your complaint is...you can always go knit

1.by yourself 2.without bugs, in an airconditioned coffee shop 3.at an ice cream shop

You've got other options, this is just one of many.

If you want me to break it down for you more, I don't care, this is just where I will be with my loud, horrible children. Feel free to bring your loud horrible children too, or dogs, but I'm not watching your kids, just mine.

Location: Coldbrook Park

14467 East "MN" Avenue

Climax, MI(269) 746-4270

Now when people ask you can say "I'M GOING TO CLIMAX!!!!"

Not only is the location equally inconvient for everyone, but they also have camping. Yes, we could have a big stinky Jewel style Knitting Slumber Party!

Cost:$5 day pass or $25 year pass if you can't afford this, we will return our "Roman Coke" coke cans and start a fund.

An annual pass gets you into all 5 Kalamazoo County Parks, including the park that is freakishly close to my house. Which would also be another excellent choice for knitting get togethers. (The park, not my house. )

Time: 3pm until the bugs start biting, sun sets, weather fails us, or all hell breaks loose

Day: Wednesday

Snacks-Oh, yes, did I mention snacks? I will be bringing a GIANT THING OF POTABLE H2O

but you have to bring your own dang reusable cup. I will not fill a paper cup for you! But I will give you a cookie. You could do the same for me. You could bring a snack. We could also have a garden swap. It could be a whole thing.

So, you in?

Clearly and without the Jargon?

Knit, Knit Funky

Knit! Boy, golly did we!

There were like, uh, 20 people there at Theo and Stacy's.
Knitting, eating, drinking, and Opa!ing...lot's of Opa!ing.

What, you think I forgot my camera? Never. I just have to locate it. Yeah, it was that much fun.

So for summer Zombie Prom Date Knitters week day outings, we are thinking of taking it to the park...taking it to the streets. Because that song won't get old, in your head, all day, that one line.

Plans, to be announced, here and at Ravelry.

As for June, New Years Resolution Update, Prize winner-like my resolutions, I am also pretty crappy at following through with random drawings. Soo, we will have to wait until I feel like finding a hat, putting in the names, selecting a winner and then contacting the winner. Please don't wait all on pins and needles. It might leave marks.

And finally...Please remember to...

KNIT IN PUBLIC this Saturday!!!!

Take your knitting with you everywhere (like you already don't)

Take 5 minutes out of your shopping, and sit down and...knit!

Don't knit? Pull out that crochet and hook it up friend! We are all living la vida loco fibre!

Fiber Arts and Animals Festival

Now this is something both fiber-ific and local, which makes it especially dear to my heart. If you are a Michigan local, and you don't have any official plans on World Wide Knit in Public Day
you might want to check this out...

Saturday, June 14, 2008 • 10 AM - 5 PM
403 S. Kalamzoo Ave., Marshall, Michigan

To provide a family friendly, educational environment to the public to have fun and learn about fiber artistry and fiber producing animals.

You have to check out the Our Story page. The Snotified version goes like this: Llama owners were hanging out at the local ice cream and talking with the owner about how cool llamas are. Suddenly, they decided to have a fiber fest! So they did! At the Side Track ice cream!

Really, I swear, check the story, that's about it. Cool, right?

So, go, have fun, learn about fiber fun and foolery! Oh, you want to buy stuff too? Yeah, they have vendors. You don't think I'd pass up an opportunity to brag about...

Yes, Spinsanity will be there. Doing demos, (Kristin, if you are reading this I WILL NOT BE DOING DEMOS! SOMEONE WHO SPINS AWESOMELY WILL BE) making straw into gold, you know, being Rumpelstiltskin. She will also have her spindles for sale.

What? You say you want some of Em's batts? You love her colors? So do I! I got tequila sunrise and I couldn't be happier! Girl knows her happy, happy shades!

Other exhibitors? Gee, do I have to do all the work? Why don't you just go and have a great day?

Me? What will I be doing? Pig 1 and I will be selling H2O with the Cub Scouts at another event. But hey, I will be with Spinsanity in spirit...she's borrowing my tables.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Why Don't I Knit More? I wrestle Pigs and Goats!

What's been keeping me from knitting? You mean besides the normal zombie slaying activities and the burning of the fatted lamb?

Well, Pig 2 managed to negotiate the treacherous waters of Kindergarten.

Yes, the Ogre and I are now the proud parents of two Kindergarten graduates. Let's keep that graduation record unspotted...Pig 3, you better check yourself, before you wreck yourself.

For those who haven't heard, that particular song is currently Pig 3's favorite Ice Cube song. He's very old school. He's also been begging me to buy him some Adidas.

Now some knitting. You know how, Whitney Houston once sang "I believe the children are the future" then she said crack is wack and fell into a dumpster, so I'm just saying believe the song writer, not the singer.

See, Em thought it was funny. She did this for her English final project! Amazing! It's the Alpine Lace Scarf from Victorian Lace Today. But get this, not only did she knit this amazing beast, but she spun the yarn for it too! It's bamboo to boot! Check for more details at her blog.

High Fives all around Em!

What next? Attacked by goats at the Kindergarten Binder Park Zoo Field Trip!!

I had to call in the Goat Whisperer to get me and my chaperonees out of the Children's Zoo.

After we left the zoo, this chased us home.

Then Pig 3 turned 4. Sooo, back to the zoo!

Since he's no longer a baby, he's now part of the pack.

When asked by a fellow zoo goer
"Mom, how do you feel about this?" This was my response:

The next day, was Pig 1's 8th birthday. What do you do for the sophisticated boy of 8? You take him out of school at 11 and go for Sushi of course.

His first Japanese soda...

Where do you think we went next? Zoo? Come on, not with this kid, we had sushi for lunch. Barnes and Noble.

Then for gifts...Bones Rock! Everything you need to know to be a Paleontologist.
Yes, wrapped in a bandanna. I don't know if it actually specifically says "kid you are going to need a bandanna" in the book, but every damn paleontologist I've ever seen is wearing one. Just trying to be supportive of the dream man.

Now, what was I knitting? Something simple, no lace, easy repeat.

Yes, I'm knitting an Orange Square for our Hopps Blanket. It's actually a Lion Brand Wash Cloth Pattern, and I'm calling it...Filler.

Why Filler? Because you are all going to make beautiful awesome squares, and sometimes you just need a few filler, background squares to help those others shine even more! So, Filler.

Max Brooks is Totally Awesome-Thank you KPL

Sometimes, like camping

things don't go as planned. I meant to be the ultimate fangirl and be at the Library at 4:45, but the Ogre got called to a small zombie out break in sector 3 and had to do some serious clean up. Apparently, it was nasty.

So, when I got to Kalamazoo Public Library, it already looked like this...

I mean inside, it looked like this...

I would like to note that although late, I put up some serious effort. That boy with mohawk, I saw him saunter in while I was heading to the park.

Why the park? I was not going to waste time or gas dinking around looking for a near by parking spot, oh, no friends, this was Max Brooks, there would be no close by parking!!!

I ran! The whole way, from the park. Hey! Don't give me that. You know I don't exercise unless cake provided by a coffee shop is involved. Plus if you ever see me on my bike you would never accuse me of exercising you'd say

"Oh, Dang, Girl's on her way to get some cake."

"That or she's throwing zombie parts in the ditch."

Then I saw Carina, knitting away in the hall next to mohawk boy. You know how knitters love us some punk rock!

Then I got to feel a little bit celebrity myself when Lisa of KPL said "We were looking for you!!! We read your blog!"

In true Snot fashion, we posed for a photo. Turns out, she's also a knitter!!! Yes, I handed out my card. Actually, not one, but two. I was getting a bit giddy.
The first hallway photo, was the antechamber, this was the actual "you are almost to the Awesome!" hallway.

This is actually someone my dad knows, she's super nice...
Example 1. Fan
Example 2. Kidney Donor!!!

Look!!! At 8:00 we made it into the sacred room of AWESOME to get out books signed by
Mr Max Brooks!!!

Oooh, chairs made from bowling balls! Fancy!

I have it from a reliable source (KPL Staff) that this room holds 175 people. It was packed. Really. Marty got the last seat inside. There were roughly an additional 75 people outside in the hall (I can vouch for that-I counted)

So, if you want to make a Zombie Movie in Kalamazoo...you have many willing extras in the Kalamazoo County area.

Or, if you attempt to make a Zombie Movie in Kalamazoo please give us plenty of warning, we may attack you with shovels...like I almost did to the guys at the gas station last fall.

Look! Look!!!

Our newest member of Zombie Prom Date Knitters!

Max Brooks is totally awesome. His how to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse talk was both humorous and intelligent. He was gracious, quick on his feet and knew how to work a crowd.

By the time we got to him he had signed 1 billion books and his arm had to have needed iced down and yet he still put up with our knitting shenanigans.

After Carina had her stuff signed, I heard him say "make sure the baby gets up here next." As a mother of 3 Pigs myself, that was the flaming zombie head on the torch.

Top notch KPS, top notch!!

Now, about that quirky knitting thing...let's go whole hog!

Debbie Stoller Son of a Stitch 'n Bitch came out Nov, 2007

Going to see Max Brooks tonight, How did I prepare?

Look, I finished my second knitty Foliage hat! That's not why I'm screaming.

Don't you see the freaking zombies? Lumbering, slowly, with dislocated shoulders and one leg dragging, flannel shirts askew pastey skin, well, the color of most people in Michigan.

It was cool, I stayed calm. I know zombies move slow. I had plenty of time to combat some other more pressing issues...

(Mind Map brought to you by the brilliant people at learning fundamentals)

Then I got out the Lobotomizer Bessie and got down to business.

It was messy, but really, how can we have Max Brooks come to town and have the place teaming with the reanimated corpses? That would just be lame.

So, besides my normal trail of dead, how will you recognize me at

Big News from Tanya's Totes!! Grand Opening on WWKIP DAY!!

Tanya's Totes

I have a grand opening of my new storefront on June 14th, 9:00am - 4:00pm in Vicksburg, Mi

625 W Prairie Street, to be exact! Hope to see you there

Why is this so exciting? Because I'm going to get a custom Holly tote made up!! Yep! Fashioned after the bag I've been carrying around for the last 15 years.

Plus Tanya is AWESOME. She has more fabric than most of us have yarn. It's sick. But in a roll around in it way.

Don't worry, you can still order from her on line. Just hit the link No, the Holly bag is not currently available, but I'm sure it will be soon.

Where else will I be causing havoc? Bobby's Drive In of course. I'll need me a malted, or a rootbeer float, heck probably both after all my Knitting in Public or KIP, and explaining what I'm doing. Also saying "NO" to Pig 2 constantly.

Sooo, ZPDKs does this sound like the thing to do? You know the Ogre won't last long around this many people. Want to meet up? We'd fit right in at the Historic Village. I think they have spinning demos...and sheep. Plus it's right across the street from Bobby's...

Sun Bonnet, Ravens, Drive Ins-It all Ties in...

The sun bonnet is never more. I hear ravens in the background, knock, knock, knocking at my door, with their horrible beak and their creepy claws screeching, "Really, a grown man in a sun bonnet? Good call frogging it. Now where's the frog?"

Problem is, since the Zombie Prom Date Knitters are so good at teaching people to overcome their fears, (in knitting and using household items as weapons against the monsters of the world) Marty is now working on his own Blot Out the Sun Hat.

This is probably for the best considering I am on round two with no success and well, his first hat ever, turned into a hat.

Something about gauge, and swatching and pattern. Which is funny because I taught him all that stuff.

So, I've been thinking about knitting more than I have actually been knitting. What have I been thinking about?

How sweet I will look in this shirt:

Did you realize Rainn Wilson was such a big knitter? Neither did I?

Oooh, look! The Traditional Danish Tie Shawl from Spin-Off Spring 2008. I even have some hand spun in orange from the talented Lora. Ok, she thought it was ugly, I thought it was gorgeous, and well, yeah I'm going to mix it with green and make it the snottiest shawl the world has ever seen!! It may blind you, or make the blind see again.

Ok, and I cast on for Mart's new hat, and well, it will be plain, and useful, and, and, merely a hat. Which, I for some reason have problems with. I really wanted it to be awesome.

What else has happened since the weekend?

I, with help, learned how to:

Change air filter

Take break get *malteds, hot dogs, chili cheese fries, rootbeer, put half of malted into rootbeer make rootbeer float. You know because my ass needs to be bigger.

Change oil

Change spark plugs-correctly measure the arc with the cool tool

If we could only get the blade off, Miguel would be the sharpest lawn boy on the block.

*Break food provided by Bobby's Drive In

Oh, I know you have tears in your eyes now.

Of Course I'm ready

(I'm as ready as the guy on the right)

Coffee made-drank and extras in the carafe!

Directions-printed by the Ogre and near the door

Packed-well, who really packs until the last minute?

Dress ironed-still looking for the iron

Gift, wrapped-the gift has been arranged, and brought into the house, but may currently be missplaced. The wrapping paper is really pretty though.

Emergency knitting that will have to be frogged because I will drink too much-IN THE CAR

What AM I knitting????

Well, what am I knitting?

Sun Bonnet for Marty.

Ok, that's not a good way to start.

In theory I'm knitting a hat for Marty.

It's a hat in the tradition of Snotty Foliage, but manly, for Marty, to protect his noggin from the sun. Sun Bonnet?

Pattern?

Well, I, well, was doing this amazing pattern that's going to be

THE NEXT BIG THING
but I got distracted while camping and forgot to start working on the actual pattern and well, instead of doing the ribbing, it just kept getting bigger and well, rounder and plainer and Sun Bonnet.
It's Chin Straps away from a Sun Bonnet. If it turns out pretty, I'll write up a pattern.
