Key to Awesome

KellyJ of KellyJKnits, developed a very cute hat pattern this fall called All Keyed Up.

After the hat pattern, there was the glove pattern.

Now, I'm not much of a hat pattern person, but so many people were making this hat and every single one was turning out like a work of art.  I wanted in on the fun and easy!  But, alas, I decided I was too busy to worry about trying to make holiday hats for people.  Too busy eating shrimp.

Finally, Kelly J came out with a cowl pattern.  Ah, the lovely Key to Warmth.  Now with this one, I had it in my on line check out cart-click here for on line shopping of The Key to Awesome collection.

But then I thought, "Gee, I could just go to Your Local Yarn Shop, say hey to the Ladies, have a nice afternoon, and pick up the pattern then."

Uh, I haven't really gotten around to that.  So, on Christmas Eve, the WonderWhyGal had  a blog contest with my new found love pattern as the prize!!  I knew I would get the luck of the draw!  I just knew it!

Ok, that didn't pan out for me either.

Little did I know...the WonderWhyGal already got the pattern for me as a gift, along with some other lovelies! It was like a dream come true!  Or at least closure.

Now, to knit it!  The extra cool part-it takes approximately 100 yards of a "contrast" color.  Gee, my spinning is all about 100 yards of contrast!!  Perfect!!

Knitting books

My knitting books are still in storage.  I feel so out of sorts without them.  Sure, I can check out patterns on ravelry, but it's just not the same as looking at all those glossy photos in a loverly book.  I swear, I get Women's Health Magazine just for the photos.  I don't even look at the Hot Body Fast articles.

Luckily, my sweet Kat got me Stitch n' Bitch SUPERSTAR knitting for holiday.

This should keep me busy until I am able to set my books free from storage.

But just to be safe, you may not want to leave a knitting book unattended near me.

The Cowls of Winter

For some reason, I had deemed the Cowl as the perfect Holiday knit.  I decided this in early December.  By Mid-December, along with the regular amount of Pigs, and zombie bits, the house was also filled with a multitude of tube shaped knitted items.

Hark!  A Cowl for Shelly!

It's on the stairs so that I will remember to sew in the ends.

Look! A cowl for Sarah!

I left this one on my massage school sheets so I would remember to sew in the ends.  So far, I just keep moving the pile around.

In the house, possibly behind a chair is a mini mochi cowl.  Another planned gift!  Another planned gift with the ends needing to be sewn in.

These pants the Pigs are wearing...

made from cowls, sewn together, but without the ends sewn in!!

It's cowl madness over here!  So please, be a good friend.  If I give you a cowl, please accept it, and say it's awesome.  I don't care if you never wear it. Just remember it kept me busy during...SNOW MADNESS!

A Winter Poem

Zombies frozen in the field

Warmed by the winter sun,

they move a bit each day.

Will they reach the house?

No, I've got my shovel.

I got shiny.

I have written a play to celebrate the fun of the day.  Setting, on the phone, me with the Ogre.

Me: I need alcohol..

Ogre: Why?

Me: I got my ears pierced.

Ogre:  You need to rub the alcohol on your ears?

Me: No, I need to numb the stupidity.

Here's your Happy Holidays!

I hope you don't feel bad that we didn't send you a holiday card last year. We ordered a family photo card.  I still have them in a box upstairs.

[caption id="attachment_4089" align="alignnone" width="150" caption="This is not the card, but it was from Disney"][/caption]

The plan was to send them out a week late.  Then the plan was to send them in July.  Last week, the plan was to send them out with a family update letter.

Here we are at the Winter Solstice.  I'm thinking you aren't getting that card this year either.

So, Happy Holidays from The Ogre, Holly, and the 3 Little Pigs!!

Crochet, of course with Snot!

I have a favorite blanket.   Actually, I believe I have a stolen favorite blanket, but that's not the story.

This is my favorite blanket. It was a graduation present to my mom from her Grandma Chism.

I want to make a similar one out of non-acrylic evil yarn for my Pigs. I swear to honor it by making it in true Snotty colors. Orange, purple and green-they DO look good together!!

After Pig 2 had his tonsils out, he used it as a get well blankie.

I think the meditation may have helped with the healing too.

I used it when I had my tonsils out, had chicken pox, bronchitis and every other childhood trauma. My brother was covered in this blanket after surgeries, and during illness. Feel the healing power of the Ugly Blanket!!!

Here is the one I recently started.

Don't worry, I think I have the skills to make it all healing and stripey.

Random. O, I missed you...

I used to play drums.  Not in a band.  In my basement.  I wanted to be the next John Bonham, sans the choking to death on my own vomit.

Mac from Superchunk hit on me, and I said "all I want is a t shirt."  Then Jon and Jim bought me drinks.  Apparently, I was on the path to being  a groupie.

I married an Ogre.  I have 3 beautiful, brilliant Pigs.

I will lift a car off you if you should become under a car.

I am a wee bit afraid of the zombie invasion.  1 or 2 at a time is fine.  I mean, really, evil scientist and pharmaceutical companies need to have their fun, but a full on invasion creeps me the hell out.

I'm French on my Mom's side, and werewolf on my Dad's.  Shhh, don't tell the Ogre.

My favorite movies involve zombies, surfing, and the Civil War.

I may be a pirate, or a privateer.  Either way,  watch your purse.

I knit.  It's damn near close to obsessively.

My secret ambition is to be a dj.  NO! MC.  As in Master of Ceremonies.

Rock it out.
