Pride and Socks

I've come to the conclusion that maybe some of my attempts at doing new things would go better if my accomplice wasn't a 4 year old. Super helpful, but lousy with a utility knife.

I'd like to point out there was only a little blood. Mine, not Pig 3's.

After all the activity with the screen, I decided to reward myself with knitting and hobnobs.

When I was at this point in the sock knitting,

I was so giddy, that I did a fashion shoot.

After a half an hour, I thought maybe I should just finish the second one. Besides, my other foot was cold.

Pride and socks. I finally got to it.

It's bound to end poorly

In an attempt to keep malaria at bay, I will be replacing our slider's screen. You remember the frozen zombie in the back field? I may have let him defrost a little more than I should have. He really clawed the heck out of the screen. It took a week just to get the drool and flannel out of the shredded remains.

Now, one may ask, "why rescreen, just get a new screen slider door."

I will gently reply "THIS IS THE NEW DOOR I'M FIXING!!!"

Zombies. Everywhere. Please do your part in keeping them out of my lawn, and wrecking my house this year. I'm tired and my shovel is getting dull.

Day off with the Dr. Oh, you know i'm watching Gossip Girl

Too many zombies to take care of in this neck of the woods. I'm taking the day off. If you need me I will be in front of the teley taking in some Dr Who, Gossip Girl. I hope you have a good sharp shovel and are ready for action.

Knitting you ask? Some of you may be impressed that I have completed 12 rows on the Morning Glory Wrap and I don't hate it.

Plus, Fabrications was a riot. Really, there was a riot, over eggs. I was going to buy them all and resell them at a higher price.

Speaking of selling at a higher price...I'm going to sell that Starmore book. Sorry suckers. Maybe you should support your local library more often.

Now onto support! Those Kalamazoo Knit and Crochet Meet up people are out Kidney Kozy-ing us! Jamie dropped off 2 with me and Liz finished one up and will get it to me after it's been properly documented on Ravelry. Desi's working on one also. Plus, rumors are flying that someone has made...4!

Thank you so much to everyone who is working on this project. It really means a lot to me that you using your time and talent to help. Your work really will help (local) peoples' lives. Plus, I'm a really slow knitter and without you I would only be helping like 1 person's life.

ZPDK take over the World

Here's the Zombie Prom Date Knitters of SW Michigan sign. Mile Marker 84 on 1-94 east bound.

No, really. It says that.

Sure, sure, the photo is kind of crappy. But I had to feign car trouble, jump down a ravine, and wade through mud to get this photo. I also had to be quick for fear of Midwest Good Samaritanism.

At the Koffee Klutch, poor Lu Anne was at full capacity! Which is good, but she was really busy. Poor Marty and Bec were hidden between two huge lunch meetings on the sofa. Then I joined them! It was like three monkeys trying to share a bar stool.

We passed the time until we could tacklesnoop a table having show and tell.

Rebecca's newly knit socks. Check the black toe and heel. Done for adventurous fun!

Ok, we didn't have to wait long until we were at a table.

Marty, now a man of the world tried a Koffee Klutch esspresso. Very swank.

The Zombie Prom Date Knitters were also invaded by a Kalamazoo Meet Up member! Another one...Desi was able to make it. She informed us that their group has possibly 6-8 Kidney Kozies completed. Come on Team ZPDK! We can't let them beat us-again.

Ooooh, then Desi had a famous Koffee Klutch Rueben, with mustard instead of 1000 island. I know what I'm eating next Tuesday.

Where are you William R. Wood??? Try this place out!!!

Oh, my Print O' the Wave O' Patty, this sucks, it's a Tuscany now? It's all done!

Ok, actually, it's now Woof, the French only speaking pup. Viola!

Why switch again? Well, I made a Tuscany before. While knitting it, all I heard was how great a shawl it is, and how easy it is to knit. I was thinking, yeah, I knit one of these before. Then I thought, AND I GAVE IT AWAY!! Why am I making another one?

So, I jumped ship, again, and am now working on the Morning Glory Wrap by Anne Hanson of Knitspot. Sure, sure, I was supposed to Shawl-a-long this project with Tracyb, but now I am. Poor girl, she's left with Print O' the Wave, while I've, yeah, I'm going to have nothing.

Print O' the...

Print O' the Wave O' St Patty!
It seems like only yesterday
You were Cast on

Yet today, you are no more
Because one of us sucks

Yeah, I think we all know which one that is.

I'm jumping ship. No I'm not going to make the crazy shawl of insanity that wileycomma and spinningin360 are doing.

I'll be making another Tuscany. A shawl I made, finished, never wore and gave away. Then wished I had it back. Which is actually what started this whole "hey, let's all knit shawls together" madness.

Oh that cookie a! Crappier by comparison

Why is it that cookie a is such an awesome knitter, and I am merely so-so?

Check her new book. Sock Innovation:

If I had a knit book, it would be called

"If Someone else Knit this, they'd have Frogged it-
a quick and simple guide to charity
knitting"

I think there may be a bigger market for innovative socks than for knitting so funked up that it has to be removed from the premises in the guise of "charity work."

IT'S HERE!!!

A recent report just came into home base:

The Zombie Prom Date Knitters of SW Michigan Adopt A Highway sign is UP!!

Just before the Galesburg Exit on I-94 between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo.

Zombies and litterbugs both BEWARE!!

How many titles can I have with Knit?

What's a Zombie Prom Date Knitter to do on a Wednesday night? Why seek out the nearest open knit night, especially if the place has farm fresh eggs!

It all sounds crazy, but at Fabrications you can get your knit on and buy a dozen eggs! Some people go for the fabric, others the yarn, but me, those eggs are good.

So, Fabrications this Wednesday March 25th, 6-830.
With the eggs, you can just say you you're going grocery shopping.

Plus, if you go before 6, next door is Confections bakery. They use butter, lot's and lot's of butter. It's really awesome.

Now for sad news. Ok, it's not sad, yet. I got Pig 2 a razor scooter.

(me trying to out scoot a youth with energy)
Mostly because I like them, but, yeah. So it will be sad when he breaks his arm.

Into the Woods

Ha! You thought it would be Into the Woods the musical! No, no, no my friends. I got a reservation for tent camping...in August!! Whhhheew! Finally.

You may recall me trying to get the perfect spot, blah, blah, in a mini cabin with pathetic results. Lately I've been trying for just a ruddy tent site. Finally, I got one. And, AND don't think I won't be obsessively checking for mini cabin cancellations. Last time I stayed in a tent with three little Pigs, I got peed on. Or, I can start saving my quarters for the laundr-o-mat.

Knitting. It's better now?

Nap, or mess around in Kalamazoo. What no knitting on my things to do list? Nope, I was trying to see if I could go all day without knitting. (I think I have a problem.)

Check this beauty out!

It's at the Retro furniture store on Westnedge.

Sure, sure, you have one like it in your basement and you've been meaning to haul it to the trash. WELL DON'T!!! I want it.

I also went to the Kalamazoo Library (hey if you're local and you love your local library, please, please rock the vote May 5th.)

I turned in some of the Ogre's beloved favorites to the Friends of the Library Store. Actually it was a bunch of duplicate copies. I mean really, how many copies of Atlas Shrugged does one family need? We had 6. We now have 2. No, none of them were signed or special. Wait! Maybe he was hiding money in them!!! No, I checked.

Oh, but the pain and glory I found on the shelves...

A 1991!

This is why people didn't want to knit, want knitted gifts and still mock knitting.

Why Mr. Cosby? Why?

I also scored this Alice Starmore book.

Now I've given away not one but two of my favorite places to shop. Retro furniture store and the Friends of the Library Store. Now please, go buy me my couch.

The beginning of the end

Here's one of the mighty Zombie Prom Date Knitters in full battle attire.

Spinsanity! Knitting the Print O' the Wave and loving it. Ok, and swearing at it.

Here is my mighty start.

Look at the glorious pattern. The briar rose seapearl really looks great. I think I've got enough done, I can stop any time.

Look what arrived for us from the Pacific Northwest. Yes, the whole Pacific Northwest got together to pay for the shipping.

Smoked salmon! Pig's 1 & 3 were over joyed.

You'd think they've only ever been feed hot dogs and pb&j's. Ok, knitting may be taking up a rather large portion of cooking time.

Print O' the Wave O'Patty or Bring me a Pint

I have this beautiful Briar Rose Seapearl that I wanted to make into a shawl. Me a shawl? Me a shawl that's blue not orange??

You see, the Ogre and I have this Zombie Slayers Convention in Florida this December. I thought it would be nice to have something small, shawl like, and able to be thrown in a zip lock bag and shoved into my back pack.

Hey, it is a convention, but it does involve zombies. It just wouldn't make sense not to store something nice in a zip lock when it's not in use.

But I couldn't decide on a pattern, and I didn't want to knit-a-lone, so I asked the other Zombie Prom Date Knitters if they would be interested in a knit-a-long. Somehow, my evil scheme worked! Others have decided to take up the insanity!

Do you want to join the fun?

Here's the info:

Print O' the Wave (O' Patty) or Laminaria O' Geesh

Start knitting on St Patty’s day
Cry about said shawl on Mother’s Day
Keep knitting on it through Memorial Day Weekend
Pretend we never started a shawl a long in the first place by Father’s Day

Goal end date: Labor Day (2009)

If anyone can complete a shawl, something magical will be bestowed upon thee (it's your shawl.)

Are you in? Give us your stats:

What pattern you are knitting (or are you a follower or a leader)
Yarn and amount you have
Do you think you’ll have enough yarn
Bets on when people will finish
Bets as to when people will cry
Wagers on who will drop out

On the eve O' Print O' the Wave O' Patty, I thought it would be a good idea to get the yarn wound up. Here is my assistant.

As it turns out, Pig3 is not so great of an assistant. Pig 1, was also demoted from assistant.

Me, what was I doing? Fighting back tears. Great big "I love rainbows and unicorns" girly tears.

Because said assistants don't care about the tangling of the yarn, they just want to spin the ball winder. My yarn stash for a swift...They must call them swifts because instead of all the tears, a person says "wow, instead of taking 300 years, that was swift, you know as in quick and not tear inducing."

Why didn't anyone tell me knitting was such a pain in the ass? Wait, knitting's easy, it's preparing to knit that gets you.

And that's all I need. The ashtray, the remote control, the paddle game, this magazine and the chair. And this, a swift.

And I don't need one other thing, except my dog.

Really, that's how the Print O' the Wave O' Patty has started for me, one big jerky mess. Let's hope the knitting goes better. Oh, wait, I still have to print out the pattern...

Scrap-Attack!!

You know I can't plan, organize and pull off an event by myself.

I mean really.

Well, Sarah was a co host.

But we did have some serious people behind the scenes making sure we stayed on task. We were actually Quad-Hosts.

Thinking, Oh, I don't scrapbook, that's why I didn't go. Well, we had plenty of non scrappers.

Marty made me a sock. Jackie worked on genealogy, State Grange Contest projects, and organized digital photos.

Alice brought a giant box of photos to be sorted and put into albums. You missed some really great embarrassing photos of me-big hair and Sally Jesse glasses.

Michelle, Carina, and Dee taking a break from it all. Carina had her spinning wheel with her. It took several of us quite some time to figure out what the whoosha-whoosha noise was.

Erika remembered how to knit.

Plus there were a few funny things going on. But we did have a few serious scrapbookers.

Our Grand Prize winner was so serious about scrapping, she broke her arm. Ok, it was broken when she arrived.

Andrea was able to bring in one of the Gift of Life donor Quilts. It was really awesome to have the two groups work together!

Oh, I know, you're so sad because you missed out on all of this. But don't fret, the Ogre said he'd make another giant crock of Potato Soup if Sarah would make chili and we can do it all again in April!
